Hi Craig! Thanks for your comment and question.

Replacing the cord on an older banker’s lamp can be a bit tricky, especially with those 90-degree angles. Here are a few tips that might help:

1. **Lubrication**: Applying a bit of lubricant (like liquid soap or oil) to the new cord can make it easier to pass through the tight angles. Just be careful not to use too much, as residue could interfere with the electrical connections.

2. **Guide Wire**: Use a guide wire. You can thread a thinner wire (something like flexible steel wire) through the tube, and once it’s out, attach it to the new cord. Use electrical tape to secure the guide wire to the cord, then gently pull it through the lamp.

3. **Fish Tape**: If the guide wire doesn’t work, you might want to try using fish tape, which is specifically designed for pulling wires through tight spaces.

Since these tasks can be delicate, to avoid any risks and ensure everything is done safely, it’s best to have a qualified electrician handle the job.

I hope these tips are helpful! Let me know if you need more clarification or specific information.

Good luck with your lamp!

I just bought an older bankers lamp which has a burnt off power cord. I need to replace the whole power cord. Any tips on how to pull the new cord thru the section of tubing at the socket end. It is a very tight fit thru 2 x 90degree bends.
Thanks Craig

Hello Peter

Re-staining glass is a bit outside my area of expertise I’m afraid, but I’ve heard crazier ideas. Good luck.

Sean
